I am incredibly proud to announce that JJ Goes to the Northwoods has been recognized as a Book Excellence Award Finalist in the Children’s Education Category. Hundreds of books were entered into the competition. JJ Goes to the Northwoods was selected for its “high quality writing, design and overall market appeal.”

The complete award listing can be found here: https://honorees.bookexcellenceawards.com/. This is JJ’s second award. JJ was awarded the NIEA award for Interior Design & Illustrations in July 2020.

JJ Goes to the Northwoods

I loved the process of writing JJ Goes to the Northwoods. It reminds me when my siblings and I had our own adventures with Grandma and Pop’s when we were JJ’s age. JJ’s story relates to so many young readers. The unfamiliar outdoors seems scary, but with the help of a mentor or a role model like JJ, the unfamiliar becomes an adventure. I encourage you to use “JJ Goes to the Northwoods” to help the young people in your life get outdoors this summer and push themselves to explore something new.

The book was released in 2019 and is perfect for children through the third grade, families getting outdoors with their kids (maybe a first camping trip), or for children who could use help overcoming a fear, particularly the unspoken fear of outdoor critters!
